What Are Pellets?
This treatment has been successfully used with pellets since 1938 in the United States, Europe, and Australia. The pellets contain testosterone derived from natural plant sources, which is chemically identical to the hormones our bodies produce naturally. Specialized compounding pharmacies make these pellets, customizing them to meet each patient's specific needs. Once inserted, the pellets release a continuous and steady supply of hormones that mimic our body's natural levels. In women, these pellets typically last for 3 to 4 months, gradually dissolving on their own without the need for removal.
How Are Pellets Inserted?
Inserting bioidentical hormone pellets is a painless procedure done in the office with local anesthesia. Each pellet, which is a bit larger than a grain of rice, is placed through a small incision in the skin, usually in the upper buttock area where there is fatty tissue. The incision is then closed with a Steri-Strip bandage. The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes and is well-tolerated by patients.
When Will You Feel the Benefits of Hormone Therapy Pellets?
Many patients start experiencing relief from symptoms within 7-10 days after pellet insertion. However, it may take up to 2-3 weeks for some individuals to notice a significant improvement. The timeline for experiencing the benefits may vary from person to person.
